Obituary for Darcy Fink

Darcy Michelle Brekke was born on September 13, 1980 in Long Prairie, Minnesota to Floyd and Betty (Johnson) Brekke. Darcy graduated from Eagle Valley High School in Eagle Bend, MN with the class of 1999. She continued her education at Concordia College in Moorhead and M-State Community & Technical College of Wadena.

On September 29, 2007 Darcy was united in marriage with Bennett Jaymes Fink at Faith Lutheran Church in Eagle Bend, MN. They made their home in Wadena where Darcy was a Daycare provider for many years.

Darcy was often surrounded by children, as she loved going to WDC sporting events and being a ‘Super Fan’ to her children. Those who knew Darcy, knew that she was an avid pajama pant-wearer, that read poorly-written cheap novels. Frequently she would be seen in town with her daycare children, wrestling the stroller that was larger than a compact car.

Her weekly challenge was to engineer the most creative hot dish concoctions for the family meal. Friends will say that Darcy frequently mispronounced words but was an excellent speller and loved Hot Tamales and Dr. Pepper. One of her last wishes was to own a life-size version of Connect Four.

She loved her 5 children so much that after being diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer, she did what she knew best: Fight. Fight through the struggle and tears. As stubborn as she was, she punched cancer in the face for almost 4 hard years.

We lost a warrior when we lost Darcy and she will be greatly missed by so many people.

Darcy is survived by her loving family: husband, Bennett Fink of Wadena; 5 children: Thomas, Addison, Haydyn, Grayson and Asher; parents, Floyd and Betty Brekke of Eagle Bend; grandmother, LouClare Johnson of Clarissa; sisters: Gina Elbert of Verndale; Laurie (Tyler Diaz) Brekke of Minneapolis; Rhonda (Neal) Leagjeld of Sauk Centre; in-laws: Steven and Patricia (Imgrund) Hendrickson of Fargo; Nikki (Andy) Worden of Wadena; Travis (Jessica) Gentz of Andover; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends.

In Lieu of Flowers: Donations to Princess Warrior Foundation or Wadena Hockey Association.
